This session will use Fevered Sleep's current project Men & Girls Dance (see menandgirlsdance.com for more info) as a case study to open up a discussion about participation (who and what it's for), politics (what it means to make an intergenerational participatory project about a challenging social issue) and power (who gets to call the shots and have their creative voices heard?). The discussion will consider Men & Girls Dance from the various perspectives of all the different people who take part: the 8-11 year old local girls who join the company in each place the project is presented; the artists and dancers who co-create it with them; and audiences, who encounter the work in multiple ways.
