YOYP Skills Exchange 2018

Over the years I have facilitated writing groups (Perth Theatre, MacRobert, Traverse) and have worked in various community and youth theatre settings. I will share with you some of the things I have learned about facilitating creative writing for the stage, and how the approach varies from, and intersects with, other approaches to drama. I will take you through writing exercises on getting started, creating characters and creating scenes. We will talk about conflict, theatricality, drafting and re drafting, and I will offer some suggestions for how you can take young writers through a process of development that will improve their confidence, build writing muscle and speak to an audience.
